Garbera Enteprise Limited

'Smilers' is a story. A story that charts the progress of KH Smilers, a Young Enterprise Company started by a group of eighteen Year 10 students - average age 14 - at Kelvin Hall School in Hull in 2003. It is told from the viewpoint of its Managing Director, David Garbera, who, with five others, took charge of the business in January 2004. Abandoned by all but two of its original founders, KH Smilers was taken from the brink of oblivion and then, over the next five years, turned into a successful limited company, still growing in 2009.
The book is inspirational and aspirational in equal measure. It does not preach or pretend to have all the answers, but instead it delivers a very powerful message. Coming from Hull, or any other similar place labelled as 'a failure', is NOT a handicap to success or an excuse to give up. KH Smilers has proved that with motivation and determination anything is possible, and, in particular, that the worlds of business and academia should not be mutually exclusive. Indeed, the partnership should be positively encouraged so that more and more young people can, with support, start up a business and yet study at the same time. The Directors of KH Smilers are living proof of the benefits.
